This year marks a milestone within the Glamorgan Federation of Young Farmers as we celebrate our 80th year. We are proud to be part of the National Federation of Young Farmers, the largest rural youth organisation with over 22,000 members nationally, 5,000 of those within Wales where we have 12 County Federations and 157 YFC Clubs.
Within the Glamorgan County Federation we have 7 Clubs, a total of 192 members aged between 10-28 years old. We are a democratic organisation, organised by our members, each Club elects its own officers at their AGM who duly follow the YFC constitution. All 7 Clubs are supported by our team at County headed up by our County organiser Gwyneth Thomas. Our County President is Mrs Annwen Williams and Chair for our 80th year is Kate Thomas, all are supported by a fully verified and experienced team of officers.
Within the YFC network we offer opportunities to develop or learn new skills within a varied competition programme including drama, public speaking, dance, stock judging, sport, carpentry, cooking to name but a few. There are opportunities to travel the world and enjoy a dynamic social life, meeting new friends and generally have fun. No farming experience or background is required, many of our members have few or no links to farming yet appreciate the countryside and enjoy rural life.
Throughout the year we hold 11 County competition finals where all 7 clubs compete against each other from Bridgend to Gelligaer, Gower, Llantrisant, Maendy, Neath and Wick. Apart from the competitions, skills, travel opportunities, friendships; YFC is attributed to developing confident individuals, effective communicators, efficient organisers and responsible citizens embedded with the perfect criteria to advance within their future careers.
